Crooked People Cannot Be Part Of The Ministry – Apostle Eric Nyamekye Warns Clergy

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye has urged ministers of the Gospel to live above reproach and to maintain the standards of their ministerial calling.

According to him, since the work of a minister is to straighten people from their crooked ways, people who are not upright themselves cannot serve the purpose of the ministry.

“Crooked people cannot be part of the ministry. as a member of this ordained ministry, you are required to straighten people who are crooked. How then will you be able to do this work effectively if you are crooked yourself!” he quizzed.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye said this on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Odorkor Central church auditorium when he addressed participants of the Accra West section (comprising of ministers and wives in Kaneshie, Dansoman, Odorkor, Achimota, Anyaa-Ablekuma, Kasoa and Down Town-Ofaakor Areas of the Church) of this year’s Orientation for Ministers and Wives in Greater Accra Region.

Quoting from 2 Timothy 1:9, 2 Corinthians 8:20-21, 2Timothy 1:3 and 1 Timothy 4:12 among other Bible references, Apostle Eric Nyamekye said that the call to the ministry is a call to holy living and therefore ministers must endeavour to be upright in all aspects of their lives.

He warned that the qualities of an Overseer stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 are not just prerequisites for entering into the full-time ministry, but a benchmark by which they ought to live their lives as ministers of the Church.

In living above reproach, Apostle Eric Nyamekye advised the Clergy to renounce any secret they may have and refrain from shameful ways that could bring dishonour to them and their calling. “We are called to renounce the hidden things of shame in our lives – the things that our sense of honour will not allow to come into the light,” he said.

Instead, they should maintain high moral and Christian standards not only in the eyes of God but also those around them.
“There is only one way Christ expects us to tread and that is the way of truth, any other way is deception,” he added.

Apostle Nyamekye also advised ministers to offer leadership by avoiding negligence and apathy towards work, but rather show genuine concern for the work of the ministry. He also urged them to be temperate, humble, self-controlled and set a positive example for others to follow.

Orientation for Ministers and Wives in Greater-Accra Region is an annual programme of The Church of Pentecost which aims at equipping ministers and wives of the Church in the region to excel in their pastoral mandate.
